Willie Dean York

June 9, 1926 — May 1, 2021

Willie Dean Buchanan York was the youngest (the baby) of 5 siblings born to the late Eddie Buchanan and Dillie Solley Buchanan in Arab, Alabama.

She grew up going to Gilliam Springs Baptist Church and continued throughout her life to be a member of a Baptist Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of FBC of Pinson and even though she could not attend, she kept up with friends there and watched the service on tv every Sunday.

She married the late James L. York in 1946 and they resided in Birmingham. They had 2 children, Rebecca Dean York, and Rhonda Gail York.

Willie Dean was Mother, Aunt Willie and Nanny. Every member of the family adored her, and this is an unbelievable loss. However, as she told us, “I will just give it to God,” she was ready to go home.

She had a rich and rewarding life.

Survived by:

Daughter, Rhonda York (Chuck) Carroll

4 grandsons, Allen (Shelly) Mize, Andy (Erin) Mize , Chase (Emily) Carroll and Tyler Carroll.

6 Great Grandchildren: Carson (Ivy) Mize, Macy Mize, Cameron Mize, Taylor Mize, Bo Mize and Stone Carroll. Family meant everything to her and she meant everything to our family.

She was preceded in death by:

Her husband, James L. York, her parents, her brother Buehl Buchanan, brother Dewitt Buchanan, brother Denton Buchanan, sister Nanny Lou Buchanan Ogletree , daughter Rebecca Mize and son-in-law James Mize.

She will live on in our hearts forever.
