William Edward Sewell ("Bill"), 81, of Remlap, Alabama, passed away at home September 26, 2019. Bill was born July 1, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama, grew up in Inglenook and graduated from Tarrant High School in 1956. He received his BS from Howard College (Samford University) in 1959 and his Master’s in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1971. Bill dedicated his career to public service as an officer with the Tarrant Police Department, an agent of the United States Secret Service, a parole officer of the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Parole, the Director of the Jefferson County Correctional Center and a Fraud Investigator for Central Bank. Bill is preceded in death by son Marland Brian Wordell, who is survived by wife Bobbie Wordell Sparks, and his parents, Amos Monroe Sewell and Flossie Tate Sewell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Loretta Cagle Sewell; children Jeffrey Monroe Sewell and wife Doris Kerr Sewell, Steven Gregg Wordell and wife Sharron James Wordell, and Karen Smith Colicchio and husband Mark Anthony Colicchio; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by lifelong friend Hubert Carlton Nall. Bill’s was a life well lived and his strength, character, intellect and wisdom will be lovingly remembered and missed by his many family and friends. Visitation will be held Monday, September 30 at 11am at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville, with a memorial service to follow at noon. Services will be conducted by Reverend Glenn Bynum of Village Springs Baptist Church where Bill was an active member.
