Sara Baker

October 11, 1931 — February 2, 2020

Sara Jean Baker, age 88, went home to God on February 2, 2020. Born in Gadsden, Alabama on October 11, 1931, to Forney Martin Ward and Gertie May Gould, she lived a life full of adventure, life-experiences and love. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Roy Lee Baker. She and Roy moved from Birmingham, AL, to Sacramento, CA, where Sara became an accountant for the state of California. After 28 years of loyal service, she retired to Idaho where she and Roy happily maintained a small herd of cattle and a piece of farmland. In August of 1989, she returned to Alabama in order to be closer to her family and loved ones. Sara was always present and active in the lives of her friends and family and realized the importance of showing those around her that she cared. Her neighbors were incredibly important to her. She spoke of them often and clearly counted them as family in her heart. She had a multitude of hobbies through the years, which included playing video games, maintaining her yard and home, cheering on the Atlanta Braves and keeping up with friends on Facebook. She was always available for help or advice to those who needed her and will be terribly missed by all. Sara is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Baker; her father, Forney Martin Ward; her mother, Gertie May Gould; her sister, Vivian Louise Tucker; and her brother, J.M. Ward. She is survived by her sister, Edith Ward Boyer and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, who all loved her dearly in life and will continue to do so in death. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020, from 2:00 to 3:00PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, located in Trussville, AL. Graveside service will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, February 8,2020, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.
