Michael Eugene Matthews

Michael Eugene Matthews, age 75, passed away on Sunday, May 12th, 2019. He was born in Mobile, AL on September 22, 1943 to his parents Charles and Johnnie Mae Matthews. Michael served in the Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He met his wife, Carol, while stationed in Anchorage, AK. They were married for 53 years. Michael also served in the Air National Guard from 1983 to 2003, when he retired. Michael’s passion was cars, or anything with an engine. And his mechanical talents often benefited others more than himself. If he learned that your car or lawn mower needed repair, he would do the work at cost or for free. He enjoyed helping others just as much as fixing things. Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Carol Matthews, his sister, Jane Matthews, his brother, Robert Matthews, his two sons; Jeff Matthews and John Matthews, 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his daughter Christy Whitehead. Michael’s family is saddened by his loss, but also relieved that he is no longer suffering. And they are hopeful knowing he is in heaven enjoying God’s presence and the embrace of loved ones that arrived before. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville. The funeral service will begin from the funeral home chapel at 2:00pm. Interment will be held at 2:45pm on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
