Kenneth Sterling

June 13, 1937 — February 9, 2021

On Saturday, February 6, 2021, Kenneth E. Sterling, age 83, loving husband and father of three sons, passed away at home with his family after a yearlong, courageous  battle with cancer.

Ken was born on June 13, 1937 to Sidney and Cassie (Harris) Sterling who both preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda (Payne) and his sons Tim, Andrew, and Matt, his grandchildren Harper, Sophia, and Greyson, his siter Brenda Lasseter, bother-in-law Sid Lasseter, sisters-in-law Sherry Hill and Carole Payne. He was a special uncle to his nieces and nephew. He leaves behind many friends and dear neighbors.

Ken loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church Center Point. He served in the US Army Reserve. Ken was a “people person” and loved the open road, leading him to a long, enjoyable career of sales and traveling. He later went on to become an owner/operator of his own long-haul trucking business and eventually a driver for Enterprise Car Sales where he worked until he became ill.

Ken was a kind, caring, and generous man. He had an infectious, hearty laugh and was a joy to be around. He loved people, classic cars, and fellowship with friends and family. He especially enjoyed having all his sons and grandchildren under one roof. Ken was an example of grit, compassion, selflessness, and kindness, always putting others before him. He lived a life of few regrets and no enemies and will be sorely missed by all that know him.

The family would like to thank his doctors and staff at UAB along with his caregivers at Amedisys Healthcare and Hospice. A graveside funeral service will be on 2/12/2021, 1:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
