Joyce Allred

November 30, 1932 — April 29, 2022

Joyce Clark Allred, age 89 of Trussville, Alabama passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 after a long, adventurous and beautiful life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Allred, life partner, Dennis Johnson and sister, Mary Wade. She is survived by her sons, Eddie Clark of San Diego, California, David Clark and wife Diane of Trussville, Alabama and granddaughter, Kristin Clark of Brooklyn, New York.

If you knew Joyce, you knew her for her: infectious laugh and beautiful smile, unconditional love and warmth, ability to persevere, quick wit and giving spirit.

Joyce was born on November 30, 1932 to Columbus F. and Velma Simpkins Cater in Georgia. A few years later, the family moved to Birmingham. She attended Woodlawn High School where she met Edward Clark. They married after graduation and soon after had two sons, Eddie and David Clark. She worked as a District Sales Manager for Alfa Insurance for many years and was one of the first women to have that position in the company.

Joyce joined Friendship Force Club with her then-husband, Harold Allred. They traveled the world to Russia, Ukraine, Australia, Japan and many more. She formed many friendships with people all over the globe and even hosted visitors in their home from various countries. They had a wonderful marriage, living on a farm with a host of cows and other animals until his untimely death.

She moved to back to Trussville to be closer to her family and granddaughter, where she met Dennis Johnson. The two became inseparable. They bought a lake house and a condo in Destin, Florida, where they loved hosting and entertaining family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and always had dozens of beautiful orchids in bloom. She adopted two cats, loved and nurtured them, like she did everyone around her.

Joyce spent her last few years at Kirkwood by the River. She enjoyed the many activities, field trips, friendships and spiritual fellowship she had there.
