Frances Hobdy

Frances Murphy Hobdy "Nanny", 89 of Trussville, passed away on January 29, 2023.

She was born on February 10, 1933 in West Blocton, Alabama. She was the eighth of nine children born to the late Laura Raye Blake and Henry Grady Murphy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, James Edmund Hobdy.

She is survived by her three daughters, Leta Head (Jim), Laura Brunson and Linda Bryant (David). She dearly loved her eight grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, and Olivia Head, Will and Catherine Brunson, Anna DeBell (Ben), Mary Catherine Galloway (Matt) and Matthew Bryant. She was blessed to live long enough to see 3 GREAT grandchildren, Rhett and John David DeBell and Ruthie Galloway.

Frances graduated from Jefferson State Junior College with an Associate Degree in Nursing at the age of 52. She retired from UAB after many years of taking care of patients. At the age of 12, she surrendered her life to Jesus. From this point on, her passion and her life were devoted to sharing the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ. She diligently studied God's Word, she selflessly served others and daily lived out her life verse Philippians 3:10-11.

Frances was a former member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham and Huffman Baptist Church. She was a member of First Baptist Church Trussville and the JOY Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2nd at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church Trussville.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.

Serving as pallbearers: Alex and Andrew Head, Will Brunson, Matthew Bryant, Ben DeBell, Matt Galloway, David Bryant, Jim Head, Buddy Mackay, Johnny Blakney.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to the Widow Ministry at First Baptist Church Trussville, 128 Chalkville Road North, Trussville, AL 35173 or to Caribbean Outreach, 350 Winesap Road, Duncan SC 29334. Jefferson Memorial Trussville will be directing the service.
