William "Cordell" Thomas, born October 5, 1947, of Trussville, Alabama passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 1, 2025. He grew up in Gate City, attending Woodlawn High School, and he went on to work for the City of Birmingham for 32 years. Once he retired from the City of Birmingham, he furthered his career, and retired from Jefferson County as a supervisor. He has been a resident of Trussville, Alabama since 1980. Since that time, he and his wife not only raised a family, but also spent countless hours attending sporting events at various ballparks supporting their grandchildren throughout the years.
He is preceded in death by his father Louis Andrew Thomas; mother, Dorothy Marie Easterwood Thomas; brothers John Charles Thomas, Wilton Herman Thomas, Louis Andrew Thomas Jr., and Joel Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Betty Scott Thomas; sons Wilton Todd Thomas (Melinda), Timothy Cordell Thomas (Renae), Adam Scott Thomas (Vickie); grandchildren William Andrew Thomas (Victoria), Alex Coby Thomas (Ally), Elizabeth Jade McGill (Jordan), Eayn Scott Thomas; great-grandchildren Everly Josephine Thomas, William Coby Thomas, Caroline Michelle Giles, and soon to be Jameson Andrew McGill.
Pallbearers, led by Wilton Todd Thomas, are Timothy Cordell Thomas, Adam Scott Thomas, William Andrew Thomas, Alex Coby Thomas, Eayn Scott Thomas, and Jordan Andrew McGill.
The service will be officiated by long time family friend Gary Shellnutt.
