William E. Johns Sr.

William Ellis Johns Sr., age 83 of Birmingham, AL passed away on December 4, 2023.  William was born to Henry and Clennie Johns in Birmingham, AL on June 30, 1940.  William was employed in the auto service business with Gulf Oil for many years, and then went on to become a self-employed business owner as a residential builder. He retired after 30 plus years in the business.

William was an active member of Alton Church of God of Prophecy in Birmingham, where he actively served in many different church activities. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, and never missed a chance to meet up with friends at the local Jacks or Golden Rule. William enjoyed watching a good game of football and never missed a chance to cheer for the Tide.

He is preceded by his parents, Henry, and Clennie Johns; loving wife of 63 years Joyce Ann Johns; son, Perry Lee Johns; sister, Grace Robertson; and two brothers JW Johns and Roger Johns.

William leaves behind his children, William (Billy) E. Johns Jr. (Donna), Connie Denice Johns, Nancy Lea Johns; grandchildren, Tiffany, Blake, Christy, Brittany, Vanessa, Brent, Will, Kayla, Haley, and Nathaniel; 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a service to follow in the chapel at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Burial to immediately follow service in the adjoining cemetery.
