William Lee “Bill” Dimon, 76, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away at his home on December 5, 2025. He was born in Birmingham on December 14, 1948, to Floyd William Dimon, Jr., and Margaret Tatum Dimon.

Bill grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1967, where he began a lifelong love of music as a member of the Warblers. He went on to graduate from the University of Montevallo in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Zoology and remained proud of his Montevallo roots and the friendships he formed there.

While at Montevallo, Bill met the love of his life, Lynn. They were married on March 23, 1973, and shared more than fifty years of marriage. During this time, his studies were briefly interrupted when he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and served in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, where he worked as base police.

After college, Bill worked as a zookeeper at the Birmingham Zoo and later with the State of Alabama in disability determination, where he served others with patience and dedication. His professional life was diverse, as he and Lynn moved throughout North Alabama when she was appointed to several different United Methodist congregations. Ministry and church life were central to his family’s journey; he and Lynn made their home in several communities as she served different congregations before eventually returning to the Birmingham area. Bill was a longtime member of Huffman United Methodist Church and for many years worshiped with the Crumly Chapel community as well.

Bill had an adventurous spirit and a larger-than-life personality. A phenomenal, often self-taught musician, he played guitar and many other instruments and was always ready with a song. He loved to tinker with gadgets, cook for his family, and talk about science, nature, and whatever new curiosity had captured his attention. A devoted animal lover and avid bird-watcher, he and Lynn shared their home with many beloved dogs over the years. Known affectionately as “the Old Goat,” Bill was a born jokester who delighted his grandchildren with magic tricks and stories, and he never missed an opportunity to brag on them.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margaret Dimon. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Dimon; his son and daughter-in-law, Geoffrey and Samantha Dimon; his grandchildren, Olivia Gailey (Eric Emery), Aidan Bohannon-Thornton, and Chandler Dimon; his sister, Diana (Andy) Dwyer; nephew Jay Dwyer and family; niece Kimberly and family; many cousins on both the Dimon and Tatum sides of the family; and a wide circle of friends.

Bill will be remembered for his adventurous mind, his music, his humor, and the love he shared with his family and friends. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held Friday at Huffman United Methodist Church, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the service beginning at noon. Graveside services and interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

Aidan Bohannon-Thornton, Jay Dwyer, Marcus Humphries, Lloyd Humphries, and Christopher Griffin will serve as pallbearers.
