Obituary

HOOVER, AL – Wanda (June) McAfee, age 95, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on September 8, 2026, at the Oaks on Parkwood in Hoover.

She was born on June 1, 1931, in Logan, Cullman County, Alabama, the third child of William Grady Wright and Katie Lambert Wright. Her family moved frequently during her youth, living briefly in Oklahoma before ultimately returning to settle in Logan. She graduated from Cullman County High School and married Vernon Harry McAfee in 1949. They eventually relocated to Birmingham, where they raised their three sons.

A lifelong lover of music, June began playing the piano and studying music at an early age, eventually earning an Associate degree at Jefferson State Junior College. She shared this passion with others for over 60 years as a private piano instructor. A devout Christian, she dedicated her talents to the church, serving as a pianist, organist, and Sunday school teacher for various congregations, including Woodlawn First Assembly of God, Huffman Assembly of God, and Parkway Christian Fellowship. She also taught Kindermusik at Parkway Christian Fellowship school.

June was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon; her son, Joe; and her daughter-in-law, Janet. She is survived by her sons, Harry (Amy) McAfee and David McAfee; and her granddaughters, Kate McAfee Jackson (Conner) and Erin McAfee.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to The Oaks on Parkwood, Lynda Dawson and Monica Fomby of Home Instead, as well as Lisa and Bria of Pro-Health Hospice, for their compassionate care and support.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed immediately by a graveside service at the adjacent cemetery.
