Walter Edmund Daniels, Jr., affectionately known as “Ed,” passed away on April 7, 2026, in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Born on February 13, 1942, in Huntsville, Alabama, to Elizabeth and Walter Edmund Daniels, Sr., Ed was one of seven siblings and carried a lifelong appreciation for family and community. A talented athlete, Ed excelled in baseball and football at Huntsville High School under the guidance of Coach Clem Griska. He later attended the University of Alabama and earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law. Prior to law school ,Ed worked for Xerox Corporation in Birmingham while serving in the Army Reserves. Ed was an accomplished attorney, known for his integrity and professionalism. Beyond his profession, Ed was a passionate historian who loved history, politics, and Alabama football. He also found joy exploring the wonders of nature. Guided by a deep Christian faith, Ed dedicated himself to serving others. He was an active Rotarian, Boy Scout leader, and church volunteer, taking pride in contributing to his community. Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Sandra; his daughter Candice; his sons Danny (Sheneen) and Stephen (Alyssa); and his grandchildren Savannah, James Hunter, Holden, Hansen, Ford, Elise, Will, and Alex. He also leaves behind his great-granddaughter Aria; siblings Jane, Judy, Charlotte, Joye, and David; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his sister Joan. Ed will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love of family, intellectual curiosity, and generous spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dawson Baptist Mission Fund or Big Oak Ranch. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
