Vernon Baird

Dec 21, 1931-Nov 25, 2016 Vernon Gene Baird, age 84, formerly of Pinson, AL passed away on November 25, 2016. Vernon was a native of Murfreesboro, TN. He served in the Korean War from Jan 1952-Dec 1953. Under the GI Bill he attended Middle Tennessee State University from 1953-1957, graduating as a mechanical engineer. He worked as an engineer in Huntsville during the Apollo moon landing project before moving to Birmingham. He was a co-owner of several AAMCO Transmissions. Vernon was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. His interests included stock car/NASCAR racing, college football-especially the TN Vols, golf and scuba diving. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, May Belle Baird; mother, Sammie Belle Singleton Baird and father, William Richard Baird; sister, Evelyn Cawthron; brothers, William Baird and Thomas Baird. Vernon is survived by his daughter, Susan Powell Hill (Richard); son, Brian Gene Baird (Katherine); grandchildren, Lauren Powell, Katie Powell and Cameron Baird.
