Obituary

Thomas Eugene "Gene" Boone, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and devoted community leader, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 81.

Known for his patient, kind, and compassionate soul, Gene brought a quiet warmth to every room he entered. His life was defined by an unwavering love for his family, a sharp, witty sense of humor, and a deep devotion to his faith.

After graduating from Shelby County High School, Gene received a football scholarship to Auburn University, where he achieved a lifelong dream of playing football for his beloved Tigers. He later graduated from Livingston University, earning his degree in Business Administration, before honorably serving his country as a member of the Alabama National Guard. Gene went on to build a respected, successful career, retiring as a Division Credit Manager for Motion Industries, where he was known for his integrity and mentorship.

Above all his professional and athletic achievements, Gene prioritized his faith and his family. He served faithfully as a Deacon at Bethany Baptist Church, living out his values of service and love daily. His absolute favorite days were those spent out on the lake surrounded by his family, sharing laughs, or cheering on Auburn football. He leaves behind a legacy of love, patience, and gentle strength that will guide his family for generations to come.Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Linda Boone; his daughter, Kim Bourgeois (David); his siblings, Starla Burrell (Rocky), Doug Channell (Deb), and Tim Channell (Terry); his cherished grandchildren, Leslie Lentz (Colin) and Brian Bourgeois (Kendall); his five precious great-grandchildren, Hensley Lentz, Heston Lentz, Hollis Lentz, Hudson Lentz, and Hunter Lentz; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A service to honor and celebrate his well-lived life will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens in Trussville, Alabama on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Gene’s honor to the Parkinson Association of Alabama (P.O. Box 590146, Birmingham, AL 35259 or online at parkinsonalabama.com).
