Obituary

Susan Lampe Davis was born in Milledgeville, Georgia, on December 30, 1952, the second of eight children born to Martin J. Lampe and Ann P. Lampe. In 1962, her family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where she graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in 1970. She went on to attend the Ida B. Moffett School of Nursing, beginning what would become her lifelong career in nursing.

In May 2025, after 21 years of dedicated service, Susan retired from the Birmingham VA Medical Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She loved working with the Veterans and patients at the VA and appreciated the opportunity to work in various areas, including caring for Veterans with environmental exposures during active duty, Blind Rehabilitation Services, and women who suffered assaults. Susan always held a deep appreciation for the men and women who had served our country and was grateful for the opportunity to care for Veterans. Her family is proud of the work she did on their behalf and holds moving forward.

Susan had a talent for arts and crafts; she could pick up any hobby that interested her and quickly create pieces that were both proficient and beautiful. Her pursuits included smocking, quilting, tole painting, and knitting. Her longstanding passion was family genealogy. She meticulously researched, verified, and documented her family history, often connecting with distant relatives and uncovering stories that brought generations of the family to life. She loved sharing what she discovered and generously gave her time and knowledge to anyone who shared her interest in the family’s history.

Susan was predeceased by her parents, Martin J. Lampe and Ann P. Lampe, and her husband, Terry Wayne Davis.

She leaves behind her children, Jonathan Ryan Moore of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Barbara Ann Moon (Chad) of Gardendale, Alabama; her grandchildren, Evelyn Elizabeth Moon and Cooper Oliver Moon; her siblings, Barbara Olis (Steve), Karen Gourlay (Bob), Jim Lampe (Sabrina), Marilyn Shea (Jeff), John Lampe (Gladys), Joan Johnson (Clay), and Beth Belden (Doug); as well as 16 nieces and nephews and 22 great-nieces and great-nephews.

For those who would like to honor Susan with a memorial contribution, the family suggests the Birmingham VA Health Care System, where she devoted 21 years to caring for Veterans. Birmingham VA Health Care System — Donate.
