Sarah Ruth Cash, 99 years nine months, of Hoover, AL was born on 23 November 1925 and passed away on 14 September 2025, less than three months from her 100th birthday. Ruth was preceded in death by her Grandmother and Grandfather Palmer, her Father Herschel Cash, her beloved mother Lou Anna Palmer Cash, her brother Howell Cssh, her adored sisters Betty Lou Cash and Patricia Cash Cole Burns, brothers-in-law James Melvin Burns and Daniel Wayne Burns, her sister-in-law Judith “Farris” Pitts, her nephew Danil McKenzie Burns, and other grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins. She is survived by her brother H. S. Cash, Jr., brother-in-law Dewey Cecil Cole, Jr., sisters-in-law Janett Burns Ross and Diane Sheffield Cole, devoted nephew Brian Cecil Cole, nephews, Tony Rand Cash, Ricky Daren Cash and Jonathan Bradford Burns, Nieces Tami Renee Skalcup, Janelle Burns Monroe and Patricia Marie Griffith and numerous other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Ruth was born in Ashville, in St. Clair County, but moved to Gadsden at a young age. She attended schools there and graduated from Etowah High School in 1942. Ruth was the oldest of five children. She and her younger sister Betty would both later attend Alverson Draughon Business College. In 1955, the family moved to Birmingham. Two years later, in 1957 both sisters began working at the law firm of Bite, Bite & Bite Attorneys - Ruth as a Bookkeeper and Betty as a Paralegal. They would work there for 56 years before retiring in 2013. Among the famous clients Ruth met while working there was famous University of Alabama and NFL Joe Namath.
The Cash family lived in Birmingham’s East Lake community. In August 1982, they moved to Roebuck Gardens area with their mother. In 2020 the two older sisters would join their youngest sister, Patricia in Hoover. Ruth spent the final three years of her life in Hoover with her dedicated nephew Brain.
Ruth and her younger sister Betty were very kind-hearted. Both dedicated their private lives to caring for their mother and raising their baby sister Patricia – whom they assured would receive a college diploma from the University of Montevallo. Ruth and Betty also helped Patricia raise her son Brian and served as a additional mothers in his life. Both Ruth and Betty were devoted Christians and belonged to Lake Highland Baptist Church. Both sisters sang in the choir. She loved parrot Charlie and furry family members, too as well as other peoples’ pets. Despite being the oldest Ruth outlived both sisters and all but her youngest brother. She is also survived by her chihuahua Katie Cash.
