Surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 28, 1941 in Bells, Tennessee to Ewell D. Rust and Beatrice Ozell Rust Himes. After graduating from Bells High School in 1959, she then graduated from UT Martin where she earned her BA in education with Sandra Lynn Rust Joganic, 85, of Trussville, Alabama, passed away on June 19, 2026 concentrations in English and Physical Education. She moved to Orlando, Florida and began her career teaching at Oak Ridge High School. While in Florida she met the love of her life, Ron, on February 16, 1964 while playing in a softball game. After 18 months of courting they married August 8, 1965 and moved to Memphis, Tennessee.
While in Memphis, Sandra taught at Westside High School until 1969 and then became a stay at home mom. Ron and Sandra moved to Trussville, Alabama in 1973 and have been here ever since.
Sandra will be remembered for her incredible kindness, generosity, and unwavering love she had for her family. She was a substitute teacher within the Jefferson County School System, and became a full time teacher in the early 90s, teaching at Huffman High School and coaching soccer. She retired as a special education teacher finishing her career at Wright Elementary School. She is fondly remembered for teaching and helping children. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Trussville Library, and Faith Community Fellowship. She also coordinated yearly reunions for Huffman High School and continued to keep in touch with fellow friends and teachers from Wright Elementary.
She is survived by husband, Ron Joganic; children, Victor (Jeana) Joganic, Steven Joganic, David (Jill) Joganic, and Ronda (Chris) Chrisenberry; her grandchildren, Alex (Emma) Joganic, Garrett (Kyndal) Chrisenberry, Ella and Molly Joganic, and Addison Chrisenberry; great grandchildren, Zara and Roslyn Joganic; sister, Joan (Darrell) Finney; and brother-in-law, Don Meacham. She is preceded in death by her parents Ewell D. Rust and Beatrice Ozell Rust Himes; stepdad, Raymond “Gramps” Himes; brother, Walter (Sue) Rust; sister, Jean Meacham; and other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Ms. Sandra will be missed by all who knew her. She took great joy in being with people — sharing meals, making memories, and doing life alongside the family and friends she loved so dearly.
A celebration of life service will be held at Faith Community Fellowship located on Gadsden Highway in Trussville, Alabama on July 7th at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and loved ones for a visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donate to your favorite charity and spend time with your loved ones.
