Ruth Black

Annie Ruth Coolidge Black, age 93, of Birmingham passed away December 25, 2023. She was a former member of Powderly Baptist Church. Ruth was an honor graduate of Jones Valley High School, class of 1949. She also attended Howard College, which is now Samford University, for two years. Ruth was a secretary at US Steel, then went into the advertising business with Sparrow Advertising, Cargill Wilson, Acree, and then with the Birmingham News where she retired.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John E. Black; parents, Fred B. Coolidge, and Addie Ruth Lee Coolidge; sister, Mary Frances Coolidge Self. Ruth is survived by her daughter, LeeAnn Black of Homewood, Al; son, John David Black of Highland Lake, Al; Grandchildren, Aaron Black of Birmingham, Alaina Black of Cookeville, TN.

The family will hold a graveside service in her honor on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville.
