After their retirement Roy and Betty enjoyed traveling with friends especially their church family friends taking them to all 50 states as well as several foreign countries. He also made several missionary trips to St. Croix. For many years on Easter weekend Roy was in Nashville, TN supporting the youth program Lads to Leaders.

Roy was a faithful member of the church of Christ for over 70 years. He served many years as a deacon at Sandusky Church of Christ. Roy was one of the founding members of the Board of Directors for West Birmingham Christian School, serving one term as Chairman of the Board.
