Robert E. McIntyre, of Trussville, Alabama, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026 at the age of 96. He was born at home in Coffee County. Alabama on April 21, 1929 to William and Rena (Bullard) McIntyre, He was a retired professional plot and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Although Bob's formal education ended upon his graduation from Dothan High School in Dothan, Alabama, he more than surpassed advanced education through his aviation training. Following graduation from high school, Bob served briefly as a US Navy Seaman Recruit, Alabama Army National Guard and in the US Air Force, serving in the Strategic Air Command as Crew Chief on various bomber aircraft during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the USAF in 1954. His career in aviation began in the Dothan area where he initially was employed as a crop duster. in 1958, he began employment in Birmingham with Southern Natural Gas as a pilot. By the time of his retirement in 1989 from Sonat, Inc., of which Southern Natural Gas was a subsidiary, he had risen to the status of Chief Pilot. His travels as a pilot carried him all across the US and beyond to various parts of Asia, Africa and Europe. In addition to flying the airplanes. Bob loved learning all he could about the aircraft he was flying. Bob took up golf when he was 40 years old and enjoyed playing with family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Curt McIntyre and James (Barbara) McIntyre.
Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marjorie Faust McIntyre; children, Brent (Rachel) and Lori (Wade) Green, grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer) McIntyre, Mathew Green, Amy (Sean) Flynn, Daniel Green and Jacob Green, great grandchildren, Davis, Wells, Coleman and Reagan.
A memorial service for Bob will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 22, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Birmingham. The service will be a private family gathering of celebration. James Long of First Baptist Church of Trussville presiding.
