Robert Crane, 87, passed away on March 18, 2026, in Birmingham, AL.
Robert Crane was born on December 22, 1938 in Birmingham, AL, to Robert Crane and Ruth Crane.
Robert graduated from Phillips High School. He started his career in Iron and Steel industry running Crane foundry located in North Birmingham. Gary later became self employed rebuilding alternators and starters out of his home.
Gary married Linda Crane on August 31, 1990 and have been living on Pine Mountain so that he could continue his Ham Radio passion.
Gary was an avid golfer, fisherman and loved playing cards especially rook with family and friends. He also loved to water ski. Of course his most notable passion was being an amateur radio operator. His call letters were W4AVY or as he said "W4 America Victoria Yokohama"
Gary did not serve in the military but did attend Marion Institute where he was a White Knight.
Gary is survived by Linda Crane, wife, Cindy Cardwell (67)- daughter, Terry Crane (64) -son, Sherry Crane (61)- daughter, Chris Hornsby (64) - stepson Suzanne Keplinger (77) - sister, Steven Crane (39) grandson, Patrick Crane (36) grandson, Zach Cardwell (31)-grandson , Megan Pitts (39) - granddaughter, Savannah Book (33) - granddaughter, Kaitlyn Waugh (25) - granddaughter, Dylan Mulvehill (34) step-grandson and multiple great grandchildren.
Gary is preceded in death by parents Robert Crane and Ruth Howard, his first wife and mother of his children Shirley Lee Crane, his brother Bill Crane and his stepdaughter Paige Hornsby Mulvehill.
The service for Mr Robert Crane will be held on Friday, at 2:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation: Friday, at 1:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
Burial: Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, AL.
