Robert C. "Chuck" Smith

Funeral Services for Mr. Robert C. “Chuck” Smith, age 90 of Leeds, will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 11:45 A.M. at Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church with Pastor deNay Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Alabama National Cemetery at 2:00 P.M.

Robert Charles (Chuck) Smith passed away peacefully in Birmingham on July 14, 2025. He is survived by Jennifer Fox Smith, his wife of 36 years; his daughters, Christy Smith Mahnke (Les), and Keri Smith Kensington; his grandchildren, Laura Heath (Ricky), Katherine Hicks (Tanner), and Jered Cheatham (Marighney); five great-grandchildren; a sister, June S. Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Maltese, Molly. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Jones Benjamin (Jay) and Ida Mae Smith; and a sister, Ann Smith Cooper.

Chuck, a veteran of the United States Air Force, received his BS degree from Jacksonville State University, and an MA from the University of Alabama, before beginning a lengthy career as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, where he worked to assist Alabamians with disabilities achieve their maximum potential. He was a board member of the Alabama Rehabilitation Association.

He was a huge college football fan, particularly of his beloved Auburn Tigers. He loved to play golf, after learning to play while stationed in Arizona with the Air Force. He and Jennifer loved to travel, and saw a good deal of the world together, on cruises and other trips. Chuck was an avid reader, and a talented woodturner.

A celebration of life will be held at Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church in Trussville on [insert date and time], with interment to follow at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. The family requests no flowers, instead that donations be made to the Birmingham Humane Society (300 Snow Drive, Birmingham 35209) or Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church (6110 Deerfoot Parkway, Trussville 35173).

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., with a reception to follow until service time at 11:45 A.M. at Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church.
