Richard Alan McDonald

Mr. Richard Alan McDonald, age 73 of Birmingham, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at his home.

Born in Birmingham, he was a lifelong resident of Alabama. Richard attended and graduated from Erwin High School and later went to the University of Alabama, where he received his bachelor’s degree in music. Throughout his life, Richard loved multiple forms of music and musical instruments. From violin and piano, to guitars; he was a part of many bands throughout the Birmingham area. He worked as a pest control technician for over 30 years before his retirement. Richard had a big heart for animals and loved his family unconditionally. He was a lifelong artist and was creative in so many ways. Always trying to find beauty in things and enjoying what life brought his way. Richard was a loving father, brother and friend that will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his son, David McDonald and his daughter-in-law, Ashlee Vinyard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Lorraine McDonald, and his three brothers, Lynn, Larry and Russel McDonald.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial/gift donations to be made to the Birmingham Humane Society in his honor.
