Porter Cowden

Porter G. Cowden, Jr., age 88, of Birmingham, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 21, 2013. He was a third-generation dairy farmer, a Master Dairyman, and was named by the Alabama Cattleman's Association's "Father of the Year". He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion McCurry Cowden and Porter Cowden, Sr.; wife, Lena Bryan Cowden; sister, Marion Cowden Vann; and grandson, Nathan Joshua Doss. He is survived by his daughters, Becky Doss (Phil),Bonny Gray (Steve), and Tammy Arnau (Ted); sisters, Anna Margaret Bee and Juanita McDowell; grandchildren, Jake Doss (Karen), Bo Doss (Kristen); Casey Doss, Neal Gray, Tripp Stallworth, and Samuel Porter Stallworth; and great grandchild Sarah Claire Doss. Visitation will be held from 11-12 PM on Monday, June 24, 2013, with funeral service following in the chapel at 12:00 p.m. The family will be accepting flowers, but you are encouraged to send a donation in Mr. Cowden's memory to a favorite charity or Clear Springs United Methodist Church.
