Paul Dawkins, Jr

Paul Eugene Dawkins, Jr., age 69, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 from complications with a stroke. He was born January 3, 1948 in Birmingham, AL; he was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Eugene Dawkins, Sr. & Mary Elizabeth Schuessler Dawkins. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1966, and attended Jefferson State Community College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War from 1970-1973 and was honorably discharged. He loved his family and dogs. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and model trains. He was a member of the Wrecking Crew Model Railroad Club, and he worked for BellSouth Telecommunications for 30 years. He loved watching Alabama football; ROLL TIDE! He is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Diane Hulon Dawkins,; two daughters, Katherine Elaine Dawkins & Nancy Dawkins Criswell; his two brothers, Thomas Patrick Dawkins (JoAnne) & John Matthew Dawkins; his two sisters, Mary Dawkins Ogden (Phil) & Patricia Dawkins Byrd (Gunnar); two grandchildren, Alex & Tori. The family will receive friends at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20th. A memorial service will be held at Jefferson memorial Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21st. Burial will immediately follow the chapel service at Jefferson Memorials adjoining cemetery in the field of honor where military right will be rendered by the US Navy.
