Patricia Matthews

Patricia Matthews, age 66, left us on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 after a difficult battle with chronic pain and recent health events. She is survived by her brother Alan Matthews, his wife, Ginny; niece, Mallory Matthews Ritter (Christopher); nephew, Blake Matthews (Sierra); great-nephew, Shepard Ritter; great-nieces, Harper and Eloise Matthews; step-nieces, Madelyn, Kendall and Megan Scharbert.

Patricia graduated with a bachelor’s degree from UAB from where she also retired after a career heading up the Graduate Program for UAB Neurosciences. Patricia was a prolific poet and writer all throughout her years. However, her greatest passion, apart from her niece and nephew, was repelling and ziplining. There never seemed to be a weekend where you couldn’t find her in NE Alabama shimmying down a rope that lead into a dark cave or over a waterfall or zooming across a rushing river on a zipline. She definitely went after her passion with a vengeance and experienced a fun life which God had granted her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 11:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with a graveside to follow in the adjoining cemetery.
