Obituary

Pamela Winton, age 74, passed away peacefully lying beside her loving husband and surrounded by the love of her family.

Pam was born on April 3, 1952 to Roy and Betty Jernigan. She grew up with strength and grace, graduating from Minor High School in Birmingham, before attending the University of Alabama, where she earned her degree in 1974. A proud lifelong fan—Roll Tide!

Pam married the love of her life, Bill Winton in 1973.Together, they lived in Alabama and Georgia, where Pam dedicated herself to raising their three children. She poured her heart into being a stay-at-home mom, frequently volunteering as class mom. Her passion for nurturing children continued through her work as a beloved nanny.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Pam was a long-time member of the Church of Christ. She joyfully served her church community in numerous roles over the years, serving as a youth leader, actively participating in the Lads to Leaders program, and faithfully coordinating and running the church kitchen.

Pam had a tender heart for all God’s creatures, using her natural caregiver spirit to shower love on her special dogs over the years—Bama, Charlie, Lily, Sugar, and Rosie. Her current companions, Gracie and Snowflake, will dearly miss her warmth and affection.

Throughout her life, Pam cherished time spent by the water—from fun-filled days with her "beach bums" crew in young adulthood to treasured family trips to the beach with her children and grandchildren later in life. She enjoyed a good laugh, often giving the adults silly toys at Christmas to watch them play like children again. At home, she found peace working in her yard, creating beautiful landscapes of plants and flowers while watching for the arrival of hummingbirds each spring.

Pam is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Bill Winton; mother, Betty Jernigan; sister, Beverly (Bobby) Strange; children, Wes (April) Winton, Ben (Lara) Winton, and Crystal Winton; and grandchildren, Julie (Rylan) Hawkins, Isaac, Will, Sam, and Max Winton.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Aspire Physical Recovery Center and Grandview Hospital for their compassionate care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heritage Place Church of Christ or the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
