Obituary

Pamela Ann Mataya Murphy peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the age of 63 in her home of Odenville, Alabama surrounded by her devoted husband and daughter.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 15, 1962, she was the youngest in her family. Throughout her life, she deeply cared for those she loved, and this compassionate heart carried over into her profession. She was a registered nurse with the Alabama Board of Nursing and worked in critical care, open-heart unit at Carraway Hospital for nearly 25 years. She had a true calling to be a nurse and was dedicated to providing the best care to her patients, as she did her own family and friends.

She was a wonderful wife and mother. Always wanting a daughter, she showered her own with love and support, serving as her best friend, just as she was best friends with her own mother.

She was a devout Roman Catholic and donated to several charities. She instilled her inspiring faith into her family and treated others with respect and dignity. She felt a close connection with our Blessed Mother Mary and prayed her favorite prayer, the Memorare, daily. She had a kind heart and a beautiful soul. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.

She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Joel Shawn Murphy, and daughter, Breann Elizabeth Murphy. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Mataya (Cynthis), and sisters, Exilda Morrison (Wayne) and Nancy Brim, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Wallace Charles Sr. and Exilda Josephine Mataya, brothers, Wallace Jr., Louis, and James Mataya, and her aunt, Phyllis Weiss.

An intimate, graveside service for her close family and friends will be held in the Garden of Devotion at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., presided by Father Gerald Holloway.
