Nola Shiflett

March 13, 1938 — December 10, 2025

Nola Ruth Shiflett lived a life marked by faith, service, and devotion to family. She embodied the quiet strength and servant's heart of her biblical namesake, Ruth, and spent her years faithfully caring for others in both her profession and her community.

Nola Ruth Shiflett, age 86, of Cook Springs, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

She was born in 1938 to William and Palestine Anderson. From an early age, Nola learned the value of hard work, compassion, and faith which are qualities that would shape the rest of her life.

She graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama and went on to enjoy a long and meaningful nursing career. Nursing was more than a profession to her. She cared deeply for her patients and took pride in serving others with skill, kindness, and empathy.

Nola met the love of her life, Gail "Tom" Shiflett, and they shared more than 60 years together. Their life together was one rooted in commitment, faith, and family. They were blessed with three children: Melissa Brinyark (Bruce "Chip" Brinyark), Thomas "Tommy" Shiflett, and David Shiflett (Stephanie Shiflett).

Her family was the center of her world. She was a devoted grandmother to Kailyn Brinyark, Thomas Brinyark, Laura Crew, Cameon Knight, Megan Thompson, and Michael Shiflett, and a proud great-grandmother to eight beautiful great-grandchildren. Her role as "NaNa" was one she cherished deeply.

Nola was an active member of Ashville Road Church of Christ for over 30 years, where she volunteered faithfully in countless functions and events. She was also passionate about gardening and was a member of the St. Clair County Master Gardeners Association, as well as the 4H Club, where she generously gave her time and talents.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, servant's heart, and unwavering dedication to those she loved. Through her faith, her service, and her example, Nola truly lived out what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Her legacy will continue to bloom in the lives of all who knew and loved her.

Nola Ruth Shiflett was preceded in death by her parents, William and Palestine Anderson, and her sister, Linda Teat. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, December 17th at 2pm at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ashville Road Church of Christ or the St. Clair County Master Gardeners Association.
