Nancy Borland Haisten was born in Sanford, Florida, on April 27, 1936, to Harold and Sarah Borland. She grew up in Troy, Alabama, and graduated from Troy High School in 1954. During high school, she was elected Good Citizen Girl, received the D.A.R. Award, and served as the organist at several churches in Troy. Nancy earned a B.S. in Education from Troy State University and later a Master of Arts degree from The University of Alabama. 

On June 5, 1959, she married the love of her life, John Larry Haisten. They were blessed with 64 wonderful years of marriage. 

During her long career as an educator, she taught second grade in Montgomery and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.Nancy served as Director of the Wee Center at Ruhama Baptist Church and taught the kindergarten class for more than 20 years. She touched countless lives and continued to reconnect with former students over the years. 

God blessed Nancy and Larry with four children, all college graduates: Robin Rose, Holly Duncan (Mike), Hal Haisten, and Heather Watkins (Mark). The Haisten family was very active in churches in Troy, Tuscaloosa, and Birmingham. Most recently, she served as organist at South Roebuck Baptist Church in Birmingham. 

Added to this growing family were seven grandchildren: Madison Redmond, Spencer Duncan, Abby James (Hunter), Sophie Wheeler (Austin), Maggie Mills Rose, Payne Watkins, and Riley Watkins. Nancy and Larry were also the great-grandparents of six: Colton and Mae Rose Redmond, Lucy and Wally James, and Noah and John Luke Wheeler. Known as "Nanny" to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was deeply loved and respected by them all. Nancy is also survived by her sisters, Betty Borland Giles and Eleanor Borland O'Neal. 

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart, John Larry Haisten; her parents, Harold and Sarah Borland; her brother, Joe Borland; her sister, Virginia Borland Ward; and her great-grandson, Zachary Redmond.
