Mavis Chasteen Swinford

Funeral service for Mavis Chasteen (Swinford), 91, who died April 28, 2026, will be onTuesday, May 5th at 2PM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, Alabama, with graveside service at 3PM. Reverend Gene Taylor will officiate.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Whitten L. Chasteen, and Glenn Swinford; her parents Aron and Pauline Hubbard; her sisters Irene Hubbard Cooper and Mildred Hubbard; her brothers Lamar Hubbard, Aron Hubbard, Jr., and Marston Hubbard.

She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Chasteen Meeks, and her grandson David Whitten Meeks; her brother Brent Hubbard; her sisters Audrey Talton and Brenda Swann; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Mavis was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Gadsden. Her love language was food, she was a great cook and baker, a wonderful hostess, and had a passion for antiques and reading. She made her family and guests always feel special. No amount of time would have been enough, though she gave us beautiful memories to last a life time.

Heartfelt thanks to Long's Loving Care and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate, kind-hearted and gentle caregivers, nurses and pastoral care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice, or your choice of Church or charity.
