Maryanne Humphries

In loving memory of Maryanne Humphries, who passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, we celebrate a life that was filled with love, dedication, and remarkable achievements. Born on October 11, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama, Maryanne's journey was one of unwavering commitment to her family, her career, and her country.

Maryanne's life was enriched by her 63-year marriage to Wade Humphries, whom she met at the University of Alabama. Their partnership was a testament to true love and mutual support. During the early years of their marriage, Maryanne worked diligently at the university, Bryce Hospital, and Gulf States Paper Company, providing steadfast support to Wade as he completed his degree.

Her career was as varied as it was impressive. Maryanne served as an Executive Assistant at the Pentagon for two three-star generals and held positions at the Department of Labor, Department of Interior, and Department of the Air Force. Her expertise also extended to the legal field, where she worked as a legal secretary for a U.S. attorney in Montgomery. Notably, she played an instrumental role in the planning and execution of the 1981 inaugural ball for President Ronald Reagan.

Despite her professional accomplishments, Maryanne considered her most important role to be that of a devoted wife and mother. As the spouse of a United States Air Force officer, she embraced the challenges and responsibilities of frequent relocations, all while raising their two children, Susie Sims (Jim) and Scott Humphries (Amy). Her nurturing spirit and strength were the foundation of her family, which grew to include five beloved grandchildren: Ashleigh Sims, Troy Sims, Tyler Humphries, Will Humphries, and Reagan Humphries, as well as two great-grandchildren.

A private funeral service will be held to honor Maryanne's memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Research Association in memory of Maryanne's legacy of caring and commitment.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Southeastern Hospice Service for their compassionate care and support during Maryanne's final days. Her love, wisdom, and indomitable spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
