Mary Bishop

Mary Bishop, 94, of Pawnee passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of family.

Born on April 23, 1932, in Birmingham, AL, she was the beloved daughter of Cecil and Betty Hewitt. She was the devoted spouse of Mitchell Stanley Bishop Sr., who loved her family, church family, and friends. She could always be found tending to her flowers and helping others.

A faithful member of Decatur Highway Church of Christ, she served in many capacities over the years. She found faith in God’s promises and shared Christ’s love through her words and actions. Though deeply missed, we rejoice in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Mitchell Stanley Bishop Sr., parents Cecil and Betty Hewitt, and her siblings Ray Hewitt, Betty Page, and Margaret Rew. She is survived by her sister Sue Duke, her children Mitchell Stanley Bishop Jr. (Roni), Scott Bishop, and Cecilia Bishop, and her grandchildren Mitchell Bishop III (Crystal), Ann Marie McNeeley (Brian), George Ronald Hill Jr., Sarah Jane King (Randall), Andrew Hill (Lauren), Samantha Miles, and Maribeth Hill. She was also survived by her 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5th at 12:00PM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East with Miles Stutts officiating the service. Visitation prior from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Graveside to follow services.
