Leonard Cooper passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, just two days short of reaching the age of 101. Leonard married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Moore, in 1943 one day before he left for the army. They were married 68 years before her passing. Leonard was a decorated war veteran including receiving the Bronze Star. He served as a military police officer before being shipped to Western Europe near the Rhine River to engage in battle. On his return he entered the construction business and eventually formed his own general contracting company. Leonard was a long-time active member of Huffman Church of Christ. His life was a blessing, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Leonard was born June 10, 1924, to R.V. and Della Cooper in New Hope, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents, brothers Lurlyn, Neil, Billy, Jimmy, and Gary Cooper. Survivors include his three children Joy, Carter (Donna), and Kelly, grandchildren Jason (Frances), Blair, Gaines, Miller, Mary and Matthew and four great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville. Patty Kendall-Ball will officiate the service. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service
