Laura Hollingsworth

April 23, 1962 — March 11, 2024

Laura was born in Birmingham, AL on April 23, 1962 to James B. Thomas and Susan Grace Thomas. Laura grew up in Homewood, AL and graduated Homewood High School in 1980. She had several secretarial jobs over the years. She was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis (a muscle disease) in her early twenties. This prevented her from having children.

Laura met Michael Hollingsworth and they married at his mother’s house on February 12, 1999 and celebrated their 25th anniversary this year. They settled in Trussville, AL in the home that Michael built with his father years before.

Michael recently retired from the Trussville Police Department as a Dispatch Manager for Emergency Services. Laura was an at-home pet parent to several kitties over the years. She went all out for Boo, Sidney, Kiki, Prism and currently Aubie. Laura and Michael are HUGE Auburn fans which Aubie got his name (the Auburn Mascot).

Laura enjoyed her cats, had several bird feeders in her yard. Her favorite bird was a Rufus-sided Towhee (Eastern Towhee), Hummingbirds & Bluebirds. She loved the outdoors and was always decorating with fun colorful statuary, windchimes and even made her own “beach” with sand and shells. She and Michael enjoyed the backyard, the front porch and even had an outdoor hot tub! Laura also fed the feral cats that would “show up” and offer shelter from the weather to any that needed it with soft bedding.

Even though Laura did not have children of her own, she loved, spoiled and adored her three nieces, two step granddaughters and three great nephews.

Laura was preceded in death by both parents James B. Thomas, Susan Thomas and infant great nephew Samson Brant Howard. Laura is survived by her husband Michael Hollingsworth, sister Lynn Thomas Kurtts (Rob), stepdaughter Jalice Marie Klein (Chris), Nieces Elizabeth Lynn Baxter, Jennifer Baxter Howard (Chris) and Ashley Laura Baxter (Trevor Purter). Also are Great Nephews Charles Rowan Purter, Conrad Thomas Purter and Adrian Brant Howard. Additionally, she had two step granddaughters Lexi Klein and Anna Klein. Laura has two cousins Cheryl Petix (Tony) and Pamela Allums (Jeff, deceased). Also, her Aunt Betty Reed and Uncle Joseph Samual Reed (deceased).

A Celebration of Life service will be Friday March 15, 2024 at 2pm at Jefferson Memorial Gardens 1591 Gadsden Highway Birmingham, AL 35235 (highway 11 in Trussville). A family time will be at 1pm.
