In Memory of Kyriae Warner
August 16, 1993 - June 25, 2013
Kyriae Michele Warner was born August 16, 1993 in Birmingham, Alabama.
She died, aged 19, at home.
Kyriae is survived by her parents, Gary & Carol Warner, and her brother, Zach Warner, of Chicago. Many loving family members will miss her dearly, including her grandmother, Sally Schissler of Leeds; uncles, aunts, and cousins, including John & Donna Warner of Chesapeake, VA and their children Lindsey, Lauren, Madison, Ashleigh, Vladik, Michael, and Dima; Ben & Linda Warner of Irondale, AL and their children Christopher, Jonathan, and Anna; Manley & Michele Seale of Helena, AL and their daughter Abby; Allen & Jody Schissler of Reston, VA and their children Quentin, J.T., Natalie, and Nicholas; and Jonathan & Jessie Downey of Leeds, AL and their children Samantha, Haley, and Colin.
Kyriae was a vibrant young woman with a passion for helping those in need, but she slid down a dark trail.
While Kyriae lived in our home and had parents and family that loved her, many gay, lesbian and transgendered youth are rejected by their families and find themselves homeless and/or addicted. Many victims of human trafficking, especially in the sex trade, are from this community. As one of the ways we tried to identify with our daughter, Carol became active in supporting the A21 Campaign, a charity that fights human trafficking by awareness, actively identifying traffickers for prosecution, and by serving as a resource to provide shelter and counseling to victims of trafficking.
Kyriae was very pleased that her mother supported A21 and recognized that this was one way we tried to reach out to her. We feel she would pleased to know that we have established this fund in her name.
(This is all suddenly upon us. We have established a separate Memorial Fund account at BBVA Compass Bank in the name "Kyriae Warner Fund to Benefit A21" and will file papers as a charitable organization with the state of Alabama and the IRS early next week. PayPal will not release funds received as a charity until they receive this documentation, which we appreciate. All funds received will be passed on to The A21 Campaign. If you prefer to donate to them directly, we commend you for this action, and would love to hear about your donations!)
