Kenneth Carl Green

June 22, 1932 — September 10, 2023

Kenneth Carl Green was born on June 22, 1932 in Centre, AL, to Lester and Lucille Green. Of the family's three sons and four daughters, only the youngest sibling, Harold Green, is alive today. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953, settling in Birmingham, AL, afterwards. There he met a cute, young nursing student named Frances Williams, whom he made his wife. Together they had four children over a five-year time span. Whew!

Kenneth worked as a printer. He was excellent at his trade and loved producing work that made his clients happy. He formally retired in 1988 as the head of printing services for the City of Birmingham. He always found it amusing that he retired after working thirty-three years, three months, and three days. Following "retirement", Kenneth continued working on a part-time basis as the printer for the metro-area YMCAs.

Equally fun for Kenneth, though, were his other after-retirement activities, chief among which were spending the day with his young grandchildren; buying, refurbishing, and re-selling window AC units; and conducting a perpetual garage sale from his home. His time spent "tinkering in the garage" with one grandchild actually inspired the grandchild to pursue a career in electronics engineering. Most of this changed drastically following Frances' Alzheimer's diagnosis in 1996. Afterwards, Kenneth spent his days and nights as a caregiver until Frances' death in 2004.

Kenneth then re-immersed himself info spending time with his grown children and now larger brood of grandchildren. He attended school programs, band performances, and choir concerts. His sleepovers and dining-out excursions are still fondly spoken of today.

Kenneth gave his life to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in 1992. He came to know the value of a church family, especially those at his home church, Lakeside Baptist . He made a commitment to praying daily for his maturing family and was always grateful to those who prayed for him.

Kenneth joined Frances in Heaven on September 10, 2023. His passing was peaceful, and he was sent off with the love and prayers of his children and grandchildren.

Kenneth Carl Green is survived by his children: Ernest Green (Pam) and son, John; Lucille Green Wisner (Wayne) and son, Andrew; Wade Green (Lori) and sons Matthew, Daniel, and Jacob; and David Green (Weezie) and children April Hart (Ryan), Leah, Polly, Lily, Michael, and David’s granddaughter Aelish.

The Green family wishes to thank our extended family and friends for their prayers, encouragement, and sweet remembrances. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. Thank you.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with a chapel service immediately following at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville.
