Joyce Simmons Marsh

Joyce Simmons Marsh, 84, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Kirkwood By the River on July 23, 2026. She was born on January 17, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio.

Known to family and friends as Joy, she lived a life devoted to faith, family, and service. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1960 and later worked at UAB, where she met her beloved husband, David Marsh. They married on April 15, 1967, and shared many happy years together raising their two sons, Brian and Brett Marsh. Joy later returned to work in the UAB Athletic Department, retiring in 2010 after 23 years of dedicated service.

Joy found joy in flower gardening, bird watching, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Trussville and cherished time spent with her family and friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Brian Marsh; daughter-in-law, Carrie Marsh; and granddaughter, Teagan Marsh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Marsh; her son, Michael Brett Marsh; her parents, Janie Simmons and Del Simmons; and her brother, Larry Simmons.

Though she will be deeply missed, Joy’s love, kindness, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the adjoining gardens.
