Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Williamson, 79, of Steele, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2026, following an illness.Born on October 26, 1946, in Lakeland, Florida, Joe developed a remarkably strong work ethic from a very early age, starting out with jobs like delivering newspapers and bagging groceries at a local grocery store. As he grew up, he attended Jacksonville State University, where he participated in ROTC and most memorably met the love of his life, Sara Wehunt. Following his time in college, he answered the call of duty by joining the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. By grace, he survived the hardships of his service and returned safely home to build a meaningful life with Sara.Professionally, Joe carried that lifelong dedication into his career, spending most of his working years in Birmingham, Alabama, as an electrical estimator for Stone & Sons Electrical Contractors up until his retirement. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sara Wehunt Williamson; his sister, Jane, and brother-in-law, Ken Willoughby; nephew Dale and his wife Frances Patton, niece Cheryl Patton, and several other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Grayson Williamson; his parents, Ray and Mildred Beason Williamson; his sister, Judy Patton, and brother-in-law, Myron Patton; his nephews Robert Patton and Matt Willoughby, his aunt, Helen Smith; and his uncles, Arther Beason and Donald Beason.Joe's steadfast work ethic, quiet strength, and deep devotion to his family and country left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and former colleagues.
