Jonathan Robert Waldrop, 61, passed away peacefully on 2/8/2026, surrounded by family members. More recently from Pine Mountain, Springville, AL, Jon lived most of his life in Pell City, AL.
Ambitious and eager, Jon became manager of the town hardware store at the age of 16 while still in high school. Later, using his "can-do" attitude, he became a Building Contractor and opened his own construction firm, Remodeling Associates, which he operated for over 30 years. Through his business Jon flourished at turning other people's dreams into realities and turning many of his clients into life-long friends. His knowledge of construction was exceptional, and he testified in court on several cases as an expert witness.
Jon loved his role as a father and was enthusiastically involved in the lives and projects of his daughters, whether that meant painting signs, building parade floats, or working long hours in the concession stand. He liked to cook, and people gathered frequently at his home for celebrations and other occasions. His favorite meal to prepare was breakfast, but he also baked excellent cakes. At one point in his life, he voluntarily taught classes on how to safely can food. With his broad skill set, he was a true Jack-of-all-trades. His attitude was that, if he did not automatically know how to do something, he would keep trying until he figured it out.
In addition to his work ethic, Jon was known for his quick sense of humor and his easy, pleasant nature. His hearty laugh drew people to him from all walks of life. To his grandchildren he was "Papa Jon". Being in Papa Jon's care meant that you were going to laugh, be entertained, well fed, and very, very busy. It might also mean you would learn a new skill. Jon "fostered" many young people into self-sufficiency by employing them in his company and teaching them the skills necessary in the construction industry. Jon conveyed through his actions his unbounding love for all people and his firm belief in Jesus Christ.
Jon is survived by his wife Sue Gilbert Waldrop, daughter Heather Allen (Steven), daughter Lindsey Waldrop (Kayla Grant), Brother-in-law Joseph Waldrop, stepsons Fletcher Ashworth and P.K. Boggan, and thirteen (13) grandchildren.
The family asks that, instead of flowers, donations be made to the Blount County Children's Center or other favorite charity.
