John Nolan Watson

He passed away peacefully at home with family on Friday, September 22, 2023. Born February 28, 1942 in Birmingham, AL. to John RF and Vera Marie (Lowery) Watson. After graduating Woodlawn High School in 1960, he went on to join the US Navy where he served 3 years. He served on the USS Sea Cat SS-399 submarine stationed at Key West. He was a police officer for the City of Birmingham for 28 years, he earned the rank of Sergeant and served as a burglary detective. His next 17 years were spent at Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.  In 1964, he married his wife of 57 years, Helen "Marie" Garrett Watson. He was the installer for her drapery business, Marie's Draperies. This time she was waiting on him for a change.

 

He is survived by their children, John Vynson Watson, Melissa Marie Watson Boshell (Tony Mullet), and Samuel Sherman Watson (Alisha).

 

His favorite title was Papa to Daniel Wayne Baker (Crystal), William Levi Baker (Sarah), Garrett Warren Baker (Michelle), Matthew Ryan Watson, Julia Marie Watson Hushour (Ethan), Benjamin Samuel Watson, Elizabeth June Watson. Great grandchildren, Isabella Grace Baker, Anna Marie Baker, Mason Garrett Baker, John Michael Hushour. His bonus daughter, Deborah Lee Davis and 4 bonus grandchildren, Connie, Mina, Tiffany and Macy. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Aveana Hospice, Sean and Chasity will forever hold a special place in our hearts. A special thank you to Tony for being there for Daddy in every possible way, your compassion was boundless.

 

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a service to follow in the chapel at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville.
