Mr. John Richard “Rick” Murphy, Jr., age 75 of Birmingham, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at Jacksonville Health & Rehab.

Born in Birmingham, he was a lifelong resident and native of Alabama. After graduating high school, his first job was at Sears & Roebuck for several years. But for most of his life, he enjoyed working for himself as a general contractor in the construction industry. Rick loved spending time outdoors and listening to music. He proudly served in the United States Navy until he was honorably discharged. Rick was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed watching football games, along with woodworking. Rick was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church at Lacey’s Chapel in Bessemer.

He is survived by his son, Brett Richard Murphy (Terry), his sister, Linda Murphy McElroy (Roger), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rosalie Murphy.
