John Alan Dodson

March 16, 1952 — February 19, 2025

Wednesday, February 19th, 2025, John Alan Dodson, 72, was called home by his Heavenly Father.

Alan was a native of Gadsden, Alabama where he grew up and was a proud member of the Gadsden High School Tigers Marching Band 1967 - 1970. Alan went on to graduate from Jacksonville State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. Alan's career in education led him to work with at-risk youth and special needs youth. Working primarily with the Alabama Department of Youth Services and various facilities in Georgia and Arizona, Alan developed and implemented programs designed for adolescents focusing on education, building confidence and character while learning social skills and life skills.

Quick with a joke and a sharp sense of humor, Alan was a talented musician and artist, he enjoyed nature, hiking and restoring antique vehicles. Alan loved reading the Bible, having deep theological conversations and most importantly believed Jesus Christ was his true Lord and Saviour.

Alan now joins his precious wife Elaine who preceded him in death in 2008. Left to hold his memory close through laughter and tears is his beloved daughter Lydia Dodson Cooper (Chad), her daughter Emma and Debbie Dodson Faust, mother and grandmother to Lydia and Emma, his cherished son John Byron Dodson and his sons B.J. and Nolan, and his dear step-son Ray Huffstutler and his son Andy.

Also grieving the loss of Alan are his sisters Diane Garner (Jack), MaryBeth Golden, Susan Williams (Gene), nieces Kenda Hembrough (Adam), Chalice Sweatt (Jonathan) and nephew Christopher Hilleke as well as lifelong friends Kim Richardson and Randy Bradford.

It is God's profound consolation to family and friends that the mortal remains of Alan and his treasured wife Elaine are reunited side by side as Heaven awaits them.

To God Be The Glory Forever And Ever! Amen. Galatians 1:5

The family extends deep gratitude to Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home of Trussville in completing final arrangements and interment at Bangor Cemetery in Hayden, Alabama.
