John Sessums Braswell, age 70, passed away on October 26, 2026 in Trussville AL from Pancreatic Cancer. He was born on January 23, 1956 in Annapolis MD.
John was born in Annapolis, MD at a U.S. Naval Hospital to William and Norma Jo Braswell. Named after Air Force Major General John Walker Sessums Jr, John’s early life was centered around the Air Force, where his dad served as Master Sargeant. John lived all over, including the Panama Canal zone, and ended up in Warner Robins, Georgia. He was a Commander in the Air Force Junior ROTC in high school and graduated with honors. While attending Macon Junior College and working in the computer center there, he met Denise while riding in a recreational motorcycle group. After graduating with his Associates degree, they married in 1978. From there, he went to the University of Georgia and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems while working for the University of Georgia computer center. In 1985, he began to work as a computer software engineer for the computer software company that he would ultimately retire from after 40 years. John had a talent for all things technological, especially computers. He loved reading science fiction books, travelling, playing guitar and listening to music. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served on the sound board at church. He had a great sense of humor and always had a classic “dad joke” ready. He was a great man who loved his family fiercely.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Denise White Braswell; his children Jessica Braswell Posey (Chris), and Carolyn Braswell Hinkle (Neil); his grandchildren Landon and Wesley; and his brother David Braswell and sister Jo Ann Bridges. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Norma Jo Braswell.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, November 7, at 12 pm, with a public visitation at 11 am, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, AL.
