Our Mom, Joan Meyer Brooks of Birmingham, AL went to be with the Lord on September 19, 2025. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 29, 1934, to Ruth and Joseph Meyer. Joan was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where she met and married the love her of life, Olin Brooks in 1956. They eventually moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where they raised their four children.
Family, Holy Cross Episcopal Church, and traveling to Marine Corp events with her husband and dear friends, was a huge part of her life.
Mom also loved her sports teams following the Braves, Tulane and the Saints.
While raising her children, Mom worked at Avondale Mills, and later as a Corporate assistant at EMC insurance. Additionally, she served as president at IAAP (International Association of Administration Professionals), and served as president of ECW (Episcopal Church Women) all while running us to football, baseball, cheerleader practice, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and church. Church was a way of life for Mom and she made certain her children attended. After retirement, even into her 80s, she volunteered delivering meals to the disabled and elderly, and was always happy to give a friend a ride to church. She loved her Bible Study group and enjoyed the many lunches they shared together.
Mom was a beautiful, kind, and giving person, who always had a smile on her face. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, devoted friend, sister, and sister-in-law. Not only will she be missed by her family, but also by her many friends.
