Graveside Services for Mr. Jimmy “Jim” Al Cato, age 89 of Trussville, will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens – East with Ken Kelley officiating.
Jim, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on February 14, 2026 at his home. Jim was born on March 3, 1936 to Ralph and Elease Cato. Jim was a retired Firefighter for the City of Birmingham and then for over 40 years designed and built homes in the area. Jim was a member of Deerfoot Baptist Church.
Jim and his wife Shirley were married 46 years. They have 4 children Sandra (David) Vernon, Greg (Crystal) Sherrer, Greg ( Sandra) Cato and Rhonda (Scott) Bailey, nine grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda) Vernon, Drew Vernon, Daniel Sherrer, Tim ( Jackie) Sherrer, Blake Sherrer, Chase Sherrer, Hayley Sherrer, Stephanie (Hunter) Langner and Clint (Jerikah) Cato, nine great-grandchildren, Amelia Claire, John David, Kylee, Luke, Nolan, Lila, Sam, Ali and Maverick, his sister, Dot (Ralph) Bingham and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Pat Herron.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 9:30 A.M. until service time at 10:30 A.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
