Janet Lorene (Rawls) Byrd

Janet Lorene (Rawls) Byrd, age 70, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma.

Janet was a graduate of Huffman High School. She dedicated 25 years of service to the State of Alabama’s Disability Determination Services. Following her retirement, she continued her heart for serving others through her work with the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham.

She was a faithful member of her church and taught Sunday school for many years. Her faith was a central part of her life.

Janet enjoyed shopping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Her grandson lovingly called her “Mugga,” a name she cherished. She will be remembered for her kind spirit and deep devotion to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Palmer and Ellen Lorene (West) Rawls.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, William C. Byrd, Jr.; her daughters, Allison (Nate) Pearce and Amanda Byrd; her grandson, Palmer Pearce; her sister, Lisa (Gary) Woods; her brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
