Obituary

James Nicholas ‘Nick’ Roberts, 73, of McCalla, AL, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, surrounded by family. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and friendship. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Roberts; sister, Linda; brothers Ray and Jay. He has two children; a daughter, Adrienne Lees (Gregg), and son, Nick Roberts II (Madeline); and two grandchildren, James and Abigail  Lees. He is predeceased by one sister, Wanda, mother Merle Roberts. Nick was born on May 25th, 1953, in Columbus, Georgia. He grew up the third of five children.

After high school, he became an Elder in the Church of Latter-day Saints in 1972 and began his service as a missionary in northern California and Nevada. He earned an associate’s degree from Brigham Young University in 1977. In 1987, he was appointed the rank of Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He later served as an officer in the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and worked as a security guard for Lockheed-Martin, where he had the highest level of national security clearance that a citizen couldacquire. After retiring, Nick spent his time engaging in his hobbies, improving his home, and enjoying time with his wife and family. He had an avid curiosity in space and technology. A proud grandfather, he loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren. He could often be found volunteering his time at Bessemer Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.There will be a grave-side service will be on Saturday, August 8th at 10 am at Jefferson Memorial Trussville. His humor, compassion, and love will be missed.
