James Edward (Ed)
McIntyre
Sep 7, 1936 — Oct 31, 2026
James Edward (Ed) McIntyre, age 90, a resident of Trussville for over 50 years, passed away October 31, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born September 7, 1936, in Gardendale to Etta and Eugene McIntyre. Ed is survived by his wife, love of his life and best friend, Gail Peoples McIntyre. They were blessed to be married for almost 68 years. He is also survived by their children Doug (Caroline) McIntyre and Cindy (Ronnie) Keeton; grandchildren Mark (Chelsea) Keeton, David (Holly) Keeton, Zachary McIntyre, and Mary (Chris) Curtis; and great grandchildren Isaac, Ruby, and Mary Alice. Ed was also predeceased by his brother, Jerry McIntyre and survived by his sister, Norma Jean Trice, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ed attended Oneonta High School, class of 1954. At age 17, he went to work at ACIPCO as a mail carrier and stayed with the company for 45 years with positions in data processing, accounting, and retiring at age 62 as Manager of Insurance. Ed was very proud of his employment at ACIPCO and, by his example, showed us what can be accomplished with hard work, integrity, and dedication.
After retirement, Ed and Gail enjoyed many years of travel, as they pulled their camper trailer over the United States, visiting most national parks, from Maine to Florida to the west coast and many places in between. One of their favorite trips was retracing the journey of Lewis and Clark. Ed often joked that every 1000 miles of travel must have included at least 10 miles in reverse backing the trailer into their camping spot for the night.
In addition to their months long expeditions, they also enjoyed shorter trips to places like Jekyll Island and Gulf Shores on an annual basis. They especially loved the trips they would make with their children and grandchildren, whether it was camping with the grandchildren as kids or as adults to various U.S. destinations or abroad to Italy and the British Isles.
Ed and Gail enjoyed a long and mostly healthy life together, cherishing their time with family most of all. Some of their fondest memories included making peanut brittle for the holidays and introducing the grandchildren and great grandchildren to blueberry picking in the summer.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Trussville on Friday, November 6. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the service at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to either the church library or the Big Oak Ranch.
