Col. James Robert Jordan "Jim," age 87. A former resident of Birmingham, AL and long-time resident of Mobile, AL, was called to his eternal resting place on March 16, 2026. He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He entered this world on September 22, 1938, born to Cecil and Lucile Jordan of Birmingham, AL. He was married to the love of his life, Mina Jean Jordan, on August 31, 1961. They enjoyed 61 years together before her passing on November 20, 2022.
He graduated from Auburn University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1964. He earned his M.A. in Public Administration from The University of South Alabama in 1986. He joined the U.S. Army in 1964. He served at Fort Stewart, Georgia before deploying to Fort Buckner, Okinawa. After his deployment, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He continued in the Reserves until he retired in September of 1998 with the rank of Colonel. He loved God and strived to share that with others by teaching Sunday School at Spring Hill Baptist Church, where he and his family have been long-time members, and by making mission trips to Mexico and Brazil. Jim and Mina spent many years traveling with family and friends all over the United States. They were avid volunteers for their church, visiting homebound and hospitalized members weekly, volunteering for fundraising events, and fulfilling needs wherever they could. Jim could often be found working in his yard, reading a book, or spending time with his grandchildren. Though he received many accolades throughout his career, his most treasured title was "Grandaddy." He loved nothing more than to make his grandchildren and great-grandchildren laugh. He was generous, kind, and gentle. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his two beloved children, Steven Lee Jordan (Cathie) and Lisa Jordan Molyneux (Philip); brother, Michael Jordan; six grandchildren, Joshua Jordan (Kathryn), Jordan Mathis (Tyler), Jimmy Molyneux (Kassy), Julia Myers (Jonathon), Jana Williams (K.J.), and Eliana Perozo; and ten great-grandchildren, Miles and Hayley Jordan; Turner, Lainey, and Chip Mathis; Reece and Cecilia Myers, James Molyneux, Victoria Perozo, and one on the way, Crue Williams.
Visitation was held at Spring Hill Baptist Church, 2 South McGregor Avenue, Mobile, AL on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 10:30am, with a service at 11:00am.
A graveside service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 1591 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, AL on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 2:00pm. Visitation will be held at 1:00pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Jordan, Tyler Mathis, Jimmy Molyneux, Jonathon Myers, K.J. Williams, and Douglas Burnett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tunnel to Towers (T2T.org, supporting Gold Star and First Responder Families) in honor of Col. James R. Jordan.
